《漢字填田看》是繼《趣味識字》認字教材後的寫字教材，其使用的基礎條件為孩童至少認得《趣味識字》中的五百漢字並且已經學會注音拼音及書寫。
教材以循序漸進的方式增加孩童的寫字能力，每天學習書寫一個漢字並且在填寫漢字的短文中複習之前學過的漢字及注音。本教材避免了使用重複書寫同一個漢字的傳統學習方式，讓學寫字不再無趣。
